The passing of Steve Jobs
by mints- 4 replies

I feel increasingly frustrated by the media. They describe him as a C.E.O. of Apple, someone who was ahead of his time. I agree with all of that but, they also describe him as having 'died of Cancer', or 'after a long illness.' I want to scream from the hilltops, it was 'Pancreatic cancer' If there is ever a time when the dreadful statistics of this disease could be highlighted to the masses it's now. Wouldn't it be great if some of the huge profits that Apple make could be put into research in his name...

My nephew is doing the great north run this year in memory of Andy Judd, his uncle, my husband, I was touched when I saw his just giving page, he has written a lovely piece about what his uncle meant to him, and about how there is a need to raise money and awareness for PCUK, all donations are going to PCUK. I'm really proud of him, and I've pasted the link so all my friends can sponsor him. Xxxxx

- 6.7k views
A Phase I trial to test the safety of a novel drug for cancer, known as AZD5363, has started recruiting at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, London and the Christie Hospital NHS Trust in Manchester. The purpose of this Phase I study is to investigate the safety and tolerability of a new drug AZD5363 in patients with advanced cancer, including pancreatic cancer. AZD5363 is a novel drug which blocks an enzyme, Protein Kinanse B (PKB) that is involved in cancer development and in tumours becoming resistant to some key anti-cancer drugs. Reading Half Marathon 2011
by LittleMissOptimistic- 1 reply

Dear All, I attended the Reading Half Marathon yesterday as I was meant to run but then got injured so got to be a Marshal instead. I think yesterday was one of the best days in quite a while for me. The amount and variation of people running truly was inspirational! I also got to meet some amazing Marshals for PCUK , even if very briefly , it felt so wonderful to be amongst people like that, I feel like there is something connecting all of us. 'Unfortunately' I didn't get to help out a whole lot as I run off to the start of the race, since four of my friends were running (I had planned the whole thing for us to run in memory of my mother, and then the doctor s…

Hello dear forum folks, I'm Lo and I'd like to thank the administrator for allowing me to join this informative board. I hope to get to know some folks here but the first thing I noticed was how it could be difficult to frighten those who post in the board regarding their relatives who are currently ailed with this silent killer that is Pancreatic Cancer by speaking of our loved ones that have sadly passed from this already. This would likely give them no hope at all My dear and beloved father passed from this in 2008. Perhaps untypically, he passed after just a short few months of diagnosis. It's time now for me to apply myself in more practical ways an…

Volunteering

My reply to Louise 123 over on the 'Advanced cancer patients' forum section about doing some voluntary work : A noble intention. However my own experience indicates that if you actually volunteer to do something the charity in question then seems to find all sorts of excuses as to why you can't volunteer. I am not being cynical. You can never have enough volunteers even though some charities appear to take that view. If there are any cancer charities out there that genuinely require volunteers do let me know. I am 20-21 months past my Whipples resection. I called it the 'Italian Job' as I had an Italian surgeon.

by PCUK Nurse Jeni- 0 replies

Peter Bullock has written a book called 'Cars, Paul and me' the proceeds of which with be donated to Pancreatic Cancer UK. A synopsis of the book is below: 'For the past three years, Peter Bullock has been the recipient of some very unfortunate luck with his cars. Many people who have had the experience and inconvenience of chipped windscreens and flat tyres will be able to sympathise with him. However, how many people can claim to have had the bonnet stolen from their car, have a lorry push them out of their lane on the motorway and have to be cut out of their car through no fault of their own? This book tells the story of such incidents that have befell Pete as he…

Is anyone going? Was just wondering, as it's not being discussed at all - and of course may be too far to travel to, especially if undergoing treatment etc. Juliana
