She is the young girl in the 'I Wish I Had Breast Cancer' campaign. She was 25 years old. So very, very sad. edit: Sorry, she was 24 (Pancreatic Cancer Action UK) Twitter said 25. Too soon anyway and yes Mark, I too hope some people reflect on their viciousness.

Eric Ollerenshaw MP on Radio 5 Live
by cestrian- 3 replies

Hi All Eric Ollerenshaw the MP for Fleetwood and Lancaster sadly recently lost Michael his partner of over 35 years to Pancreatic Cancer. As an MP he feels that he is in a good position to draw attention to the lack of progress in the diagnosis and treatment of of Pancreatic Cancer. He was on the Steven Nolan show at around 12.30 a.m. this morning and attempted to use this platform to publicise the problems faced by anyone suffering from this cruel illness but was shamelessly sidetracked by Nolan who seemed more interested in probing his relationship with his recently deceased partner. Obviously thought to be of more interest to his audience as Eric was probably…

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
by Slewis7313- 5 replies

I am a Facebook friend with Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in the States and today they posted a recent 1 hour webinar by an American specialist. It is amazingly informative and well worth sitting down for an hour to watch on Youtube. There are some differences in how they do things across the water, but the lady broaches on many aspects of what we regularly discuss, including Abraxane (which she refers to as Paclitaxel) Some of the information relates to very specific survival times, which are not easy reading, but overall worth a read. Redemption penalty for paying mortgage off
by Annie14- 0 replies

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had been in a position whereby they paid off their mortgage following their diagnosis and wether or not you had to pay the redemption charge for paying the mortgage early or did they waive it given the circumstances. I was just hoping to get an idea of if it is possible before we phone mortgage company. Thanks.x

Travel Insurance scam
by LindaH- 7 replies

Hi, Well bless my soul, they - Travel Insurance Thieves - are certainly trying to steal my money..... My hubby and I would like to travel to New York for 4 days for my 60th birthday....count them....4 days that's all....best quote to date £2764 Fantastic. The flippin' hotel & flight cost less than that for the two of us. Crazy. Have I got leprosy NO....but you would jolly well think I had, because I am being treated like a Leper. There is one company who gave me a quote of high hundreds and were actually very apologetic about it being so high, but as for the rest, they are discriminating me at a time when I am at a low ebb and vulnerable (I'm not, I'm ac…

Hi...this is the first time on the forum, although I have been reading the posts for the past few days. I am just really after some advice... My dad(64)has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but I am still unsure of alot of things really. It only started about two months ago, although for a few weeks before I noticed he started to look older and had lost weight, then I went on holiday...when I returned I could not believe his weight loss. He told me he had been for some tests, and that his diabetes had gone through the roof!! He has lost about two and half stones in the space of 4/5 weeks. Anyway he was then sent for scans, endoscopy and then ct scan, and t…

I've found only this scant information about a new trial using the common cold virus. Thought I would share it. Cheers, Mike http://www.nbc4i.com/story/24037701/trial-uses-common-cold-to-fight-pancreatic-cancer

It had to be done so I did it

I suppose it helps knowing the receptionist at the funeral directors so I knew I could ask about arranging my funeral and not come away completely confused. Actually he came to me and put me at ease straight away. In fact he laughed when I said "For goodness sake don't drop me as you're carrying me down the aisle". No-way am I being put in a box...brrr....shiver at the thought; no, I'm having a lovely Willow pink and white Casket and it looks really nice; plus I want to be cremated. The music into the chapel is going to be "Someday we'll be together" Diana Ross the Supremes & the Temptations followed by the hymn "The Day Thou Gavest Lord As Ended" then my daught…

Trial at XX 1 2
by kwaitang- 29 replies

My husband, Keith, has been selected to start clinical trials at xx hospital in xx. He was scheduled to start next Wednesday but we have since had a call to say that it has been delayed because the previous scan was not clear enough and thay needed to do naother one (his fifth). So now we wait yet again. The treatment will run alongside chemotherapy. The drug is called VANDETARINE ( don't know how to spell it) and apparently only 50% of patients are given this drug and the other 50% are given a placebo. The doctor says that they are not involved in the selection of who will recieve the drug and that they just monitor everything and report back to whoever. Has anyone he…

Advice please
by janem- 3 replies

My dad has just been told he has pancreatic cancer and has an appointment in 2 weeks at the specialist centre for an EUS and has been told that they might do a biopsy as well. I guess this will tell us how advanced the cancer is and if it is operable. Can anyone tell me how long on average it takes to get the results or if we will be told at the time.

Waiting for Marathon news
by Thriae- 13 replies

Hi all I'm beside myself today waiting to hear whether I have been successful in gaining a place in the Virgin London Marathon 2014 running for Pancreatic Cancer UK. The post probably will not come until after I've left for work, so just wanted to share my extreme excitement and anticipation. I know it's very difficult to gain a place but it means so much to me I will be ecstatic if I get it. My partner and I were both unsuccessful in the ballot, and he doesn't know I've applied for a charity place so I can't even tell him why I'm watching the letterbox like a nut case. If I'm back later with the news I'm wishing for then I will be delighted to share with you…

Sent APPG Recording to my MP
by J_T- 2 replies

I sent my MP, Tim Farron, this recording with a note to listen specifically from 24.50 mins with particular attention to the comments at about 25.38 re European directives which quite shocked me. This is the response I got: Dear Julia Thank you very much for your recent email with regard to the low level of funding for research into pancreatic cancer. I offer my deepest sympathy because I have endured similar grief, when my wife’s mum was taken by the same affliction at a similar age. I have contacted our expert MEP on this subject and received the following explanation: - “Before going into any of the specific details of the proposed Clinical Trials …

I did a telephone interview at 8:15am *yawn* Thursday morning. By all accounts it came across quite well and I feel I got my point across, but there was so much more I could - and wanted - say. I'll post the link if anyone would like to listen. Just click on Listen Now. When the little screen comes up move your curser along the time line to 2 hours and approx. 21 minutes and then my piece will be on a couple of minutes later along with the lady from PCUK. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01j32d4 Linda x

Ways to help
by Thriae- 1 reply

I just wanted to take an expressed thought from dad (recently diagnosed with stage IV PC) and ask if anyone has any ideas on it. Dad was recently discharged from hospital where his fellow ward mates were at various stages of different cancer. I know that dad was very moved by their plight, and since his diagnosis has expressed a desire to 'offer something back'. I have NO idea how he might fulfil this wish - especially as he himself is very poorly - but wondered if any of you have any ideas? I even wondered if dad could maybe contribute to the 'case study' section of the website or something like that. I'd welcome any suggestions that I could maybe pass on to h…

One expensive mistake

I think I wrote about a holiday Steve (hubby) and I hoped to take for my 60th birthday which was supposed to be in New York, then out of the blue I was informed I had DVT, so had to cancel the trip of a lifetime. Fortunately, all but £7 we have received every penny back from the cancelled trip so ....phew ! I was determined we would go somewhere after all 60 years is somewhat a milestone birthday, but why oh why didn't I listen to Steve? We decided to go to Euro Disney on the Euro Star train....fantastic journey, just 2 and a half hours from London straight into the resort....why can't Britain have a railway system like that? Anyway, I digress. We've been to Euro D…
