My 39 year old sister Dominique died today, quietly and without fuss, exactly as she had lived the last 5 months since diagnosis of inoperable PC. She tried Folfirinox but only managed two rounds as the vivacity of this combination was just too much for her already depleted body. Dom never complained and took on each new stage of this dreadful illness with dignity. I am so sad that she never really had a fighting chance to be close to the 3% who somehow beat it. She will be missed by us all. Our loved ones deserve more than the look of defeat that passes through the eyes of those who recognise the implications when hearing that the cancer is pancreatic. The statisti…

My family and I have decided that we are going to do the Great Wall Trek for Hope this year in October, in order to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK. We have decided to after my dad was diagnosed in December 2013 and sadly passed away on the 17th February 2014, at the age of just 54. My mum has been posting on the forum since my nan was diagnosed in January 2012 and passed away August 2012 and then again when my dad was diagnosed: http://forum.pancreaticcancer.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1269 We are determined to raise as much money between us as we can, and will be doing all sorts of different fundraising activities to get to our target. Please sponsor u…

Well, I completed the Virgin London MArathon yesterday in memory of Dad who died in November. Many of you sponsored and supported me with good wishes and donations to Pancreatic Cancer UK and I am extremely greatful. I've not been back here really since dad's funeral as I found it very hard, but wanted to come and share the closing of this chapter with you. The training has been part of my grief journey and you guys were here with me as I began that journey. Love to you all x Aimie

When no one understands

I read on here people that have a lot of support and love from their partners, but what happens when you don't get that love and support? I don't feel that I have that with my partner. He sighs when I mention my dad. He huffs and puffs when we go and visit him. He is unsupportive of how I feel. When I cry he says what now? Both his parents are alive and well, so he has no idea how I feel. I just really don't know what to do. He is incredibly selfish anyway, but it is really showing right now. I am absolutely heartbroken. I love my dad so very very much and I don't want this for him. I can't bare what he has. I can't bare what is going to happen to him and I c…

I was worried about not hearing from him and I remembered he had posted a news article about his lovely daughter which I found and then subsequently found this. Only seems to take the best this wretched disease. We miss you Mike, you were so full of life and positivity. May you rest in peace. Disgusting doctor, was this legal?
by Guest Fifi- 10 replies

Bit of background first - The doctor that didn't diagnose my dad correctly, I have made a complaint about him. He wrote back me, or his secretary did, unsigned as well. I have also complained to NHS England, still waiting ti hear from them. Today, I went to visit my dad. When I got there, he said the said doctor was coming round to see him, to talk about his wellbeing. I wasn't very pleased. My dad told me to wait in the other room. I did, but I could hear everything. My dad told him that I wasn't coming in because I was mad with him. My dad told him he should have diagnosed him sooner, and that if it wasn't for himself ( my dad ) then he would still be going bac…

Are there any support groups in London?
by Muzzy64- 3 replies
- 6.6k views
I have just become aware of this online support forum for people with pancreatic cancer and imagine that I will be using it a lot over the next few months/ years (hopefully). I was wondering are there any face to face support groups for people with serious life threatening illnesses such as PC in London area. I have friends who use AA to cope with their common problem with Alcohol and it can work very well indeed.

Hi everyone. I know there are lots of fundraisers out there and here is one more! My daughter Kate, and her boys, my gorgeous grandsons, are running the Manchester 10K for Pancreatic Cancer UK who were such a help to us in so many ways when Ray was ill. Some of you know her as a user of the forum (KATB). I know cash is tight for lots of people but just a little goes a long way and it all adds up. ANY amount is most welcome for such a worthy cause. We have to try to beat this blighter one way or another! Thanks in advance of any donation http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=Kateandtheboys&isTea…

by Annie14- 7 replies
- 10.6k views
Hello Everyone, My husband, aged 36, has now had his third folfirinox treatment and is coping well. He feels he wants to start giving something back so we have organised a charity family walk to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK. The Purple Parade walk is taking place on May 11th 2014 at 10.30am in Milton Keynes. If you are local please join us on the day to spread the message that this dreadful disease requires more attention and funding in order to improve survival rates. We hope it will be a fun filled family affair with everyone boldly parading in the purple colours of pancreatic cancer. There will also be a relaxed "after party" at a local bar to rest those wea…

She is the young girl in the 'I Wish I Had Breast Cancer' campaign. She was 25 years old. So very, very sad. edit: Sorry, she was 24 (Pancreatic Cancer Action UK) Twitter said 25. Too soon anyway and yes Mark, I too hope some people reflect on their viciousness.

Eric Ollerenshaw MP on Radio 5 Live
by cestrian- 3 replies

Hi All Eric Ollerenshaw the MP for Fleetwood and Lancaster sadly recently lost Michael his partner of over 35 years to Pancreatic Cancer. As an MP he feels that he is in a good position to draw attention to the lack of progress in the diagnosis and treatment of of Pancreatic Cancer. He was on the Steven Nolan show at around 12.30 a.m. this morning and attempted to use this platform to publicise the problems faced by anyone suffering from this cruel illness but was shamelessly sidetracked by Nolan who seemed more interested in probing his relationship with his recently deceased partner. Obviously thought to be of more interest to his audience as Eric was probably…

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network

I am a Facebook friend with Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in the States and today they posted a recent 1 hour webinar by an American specialist. It is amazingly informative and well worth sitting down for an hour to watch on Youtube. There are some differences in how they do things across the water, but the lady broaches on many aspects of what we regularly discuss, including Abraxane (which she refers to as Paclitaxel) Some of the information relates to very specific survival times, which are not easy reading, but overall worth a read. Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone had been in a position whereby they paid off their mortgage following their diagnosis and wether or not you had to pay the redemption charge for paying the mortgage early or did they waive it given the circumstances. I was just hoping to get an idea of if it is possible before we phone mortgage company. Thanks.x

Travel Insurance scam

Hi, Well bless my soul, they - Travel Insurance Thieves - are certainly trying to steal my money..... My hubby and I would like to travel to New York for 4 days for my 60th birthday....count them....4 days that's all....best quote to date £2764 Fantastic. The flippin' hotel & flight cost less than that for the two of us. Crazy. Have I got leprosy NO....but you would jolly well think I had, because I am being treated like a Leper. There is one company who gave me a quote of high hundreds and were actually very apologetic about it being so high, but as for the rest, they are discriminating me at a time when I am at a low ebb and vulnerable (I'm not, I'm ac…
