Well enough for Chemo?
by Leah256- 9 replies

Question: If you/loved one have had chemo, what physical state where you in beforehand and did this contribute to how you coped with it/success of treatment? I have read through so many websites, forums, posts, even trawling through medical journals to find more information and answers. What I have found really helpful was those who gave a thorough background – I keep trying to find my mum, the same symptoms, positions of tumour etc. – so thought I would do the same (it is a very long post!). My mum is nearly 71. She doesn’t drink, smoke, and up until six weeks ago was going to the gym three times a week and walking the dogs for an hour each day.…

Pros and cons for stent for ascites
by Gayle- 0 replies

My Mum is under the hospice for palliative care for metastatic pancreatic cancer. She had 8 litres of fluid drained from her abdomen in April, but it is back and worse than before. Mum has not sought medical advice because she is reluctant to undergo a prolonged stay in hospital again. She would like to have a stent fitted so it can be drained at home, but her oncologist is saying no. She has only heard this through the clinical nurse because she has no further appointments with the oncologist, although he still seems to be directing her care. Does anyone know why he would be against a stent and any advice on where to go from here? BTW oncologist has advised that he …

Good morning, I'm new to this site so apologise if this topic sound frivolous but my newly diagnosed husband is very focussed on getting away on holiday. He is due to start Chemo this coming Friday, 11th March, and his Oncologist has said that as long as he feels well enough there's no reason why we shouldn't go so I'm doing everything I can to make it happen. The stumbling block is insurance. Has anyone else had problems? Are there firms that specialise or make it easier? Thanks in advance.

Good morning, I am reaching out because I am looking for some support. I have lurked for around a month; reading past posts and people's experiences. Firstly, I'd like to say that this discussion forum is such a wonderful place and an amazingly supportive environment. I really don't want to offend or cause distress to those on here who have PC or have family or friends with PC. If anyone does feel in enough of an ok emotional space to read and/or reply then I thank you in advance for this. I am female, 44. Married with two children. About 18 months ago, I started with a strange moving sensation internally. It would feel like it …

Hi guys, Deep inside i feel i know the answers. I know "what i should do". I guess Im writing here because i just need to vent out. To feel i can talk to someone. To be heard. Its been hell carrying all this fear and anxiety by myself. Im writing this post after being sick for a month now. Undigested food, yellow floating stools, pain under the right ribs, sometimes on the left, sometimes on the back, itcky skin, foamy and darker urine. Yes. I know. I know. But my journey did not start 1 month ago. It actually started 7 years ago, and please hear me out, because its like i have lived with this certainty for such a long time. 7 years ago, i was very active. …

Very Itchy

Hi, this is my first post as I desperately need some advice for my husband who was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer two weeks ago. (Sunday 24th October 2021) He spoke to our GP about the itchiness, jaundice and weight loss. She made a face to face appointment later that day as she wanted to see him. She then sent him to our emergency hospital. That was Thursday 21st October 2021. At the hospital he had bloods taken and given Piriton for the itch. An appointment was made for the Saturday where he had an ultrasound scan. Another appointment for the Sunday when he had a CT scan. That was when they diagnosed the PC. They kept him in overnight as they had to start him o…

Waiting on tests
by RDS1992- 1 reply

Hey everyone, Just looking for some general advice and personal experiences. I was diagnosed with pancreatic exocrine insufficiency back in October 2020 and was given enzyme replacement medication to sort that out. Problem is I am still suffering with terrible nausea and upper abdominal pain. I do not have chronic pancreatitus etc as my pancreas structure looks okay from my MRI scan and bloods okay so my doctor has put me forward to a PET-CT scan. Now in 2015 I had a carcinoid tumour on my appendix so he is wondering if there may be one growing inside my pancreas to stop the enzymes being released if that makes sense. Has anyone has the same sort of scen…

After months of pain in stomach and back and various tests, my Mum has been told she has PC based on a CT scan and blood tests. 5 months ago the blood tests were clear. She has been referred for an endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) biopsy but is having to wait for 3 weeks from being told to the actual appointment. I know COVID is causing delays but is this a normal amount of time to wait for a prognosis? The appointment is in Southampton hospital and I wondered if all hospitals over the UK are on these kind of time frames? Is it possible to get an appointment elsewhere any sooner? Any advice much appreciated.

Hi All, I am looking to travel to the USA for Nanoknife treatment to the pancreas. Can anyone recommend a company that effectively provides insurance for someone travelling abroad with the specific purpose of some form of treatment (health tourist)? I can get insurance for pre-existing condition but most policies are immediately invalidated because the purpose of my trip is surgery. I would prefer not to take the risk of invalidating my insurance. Any help much appreciated, Erika

My story is below.. if anyone could respond with what they think it could be other than cancer. It started in 2019 when I was pregnant with second child. I was found to have anemia when never had it before. Didn't think much over. Months passed and started having burning pain under both ribs. Stool solid and light brown but started having a yellow fluid with it (the water colors yellow but not oily). Smelly stool and tiny bit wet looking. Pain also started on left side with chest pains, pain under armpit etc but manageable (most is discomfort not extreme pain). Everything checked out fine with obgyn but had an abdominal ultrasound and they sa…

Advice? Pointers on what else I could maybe do?

Hi there. I've posted on one other forum before, after building up the strength to do so because it's almost like if I venture onto a forum like this then it makes things real - which of course is nonsense but somehow my addled brain makes me think that way! Brief intro. I'm a 40 yo man with 2 young girls. Since mid-March, toward the end of a covid isolation period (in which I was pretty much symptom free bar some loss of smell toward the end) I've had consistent abdominal pain. Initially down my right flank, sometimes with a 'pinging' feeling in my right shoulder. The pain was initially like a kind of squeezing feeling, and quite incapacitating without ever being a …

Hello Everyone I was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in June 2019 got through the op chemo (which was nearly ended when covid struck) I just wanted to get in contact with others out there who I can obtain useful information/guidance/general chat(s) - I live on my own and have I think coped quite well but recently have found it overwhelming in fact I have quite literally had an emotional and physical breakdown. It would be great to hear from others about their experiences how they are coping and most of all to be reassured that the things that have happened and are happening not only with my body but my mental state isnt me making it up or exaggerating…

Hi i am 55 year old female. 15 months ago i had several symptoms including rib cage pains and yellow stools with oil on water. I pushed for a private ct scan which was thankfully clear. Since then there have been the odd sharp pain in side and some heartburn along with spikes in temperature. Told by gp temperature due to menopause. Since mid April this year been getting knife like pain between left hip and rib cage plus pains at back of right rib cage. Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 5 weeks ago. Blood tests showed raised infection marker slightly raised liver function and potassium level. Kidney ultrasound done which was ok apart from liver cysts. I have pushed …

I’m going through the process of diagnosis. I diverticulitis and l have been having left sided pain which spreads to my back. I also get a really weird feeling under my left ribs, night sweets and lost loads of weight. My consultant sent me for an endoscopy as l had very bad dyspepsia including constant burping, she thought perhaps l had a hiatus hernia. The endoscopy came back normal. I’m still getting stomach and back pain as well as night sweats. My stool is very bulky and sticky. I’m certain it’s pancreatic cancer as l feel so unwell. I have found a swollen hard lump in my belly area which l thought might be a lymph node. I’m really scared. I do have liver diseas…

Are GPS worth their salt?

I was diagnosed with locally advanced PC in November 2019 but only after I had developed a bad case of jaundice. My point is, are GPS up to speed with identifying the symptoms of this pernicious cancer? I unknowingly started experiencing symptoms in June 2019 with persistent back ache. But prior to this and purely on a health whim I had a private full health check in January 2019 where it was noted that my platelets were just below 100 - where 100 is a minimum for a normal blood count. The health check was duly passed on to my GP shortly afterwards. The GP phoned me early April 2019 and went through my results but only became aware of my bloods count after I highligh…

Difficult Decision To Make - Advice Please
by easymark- 4 replies

I have a life-changing decision to make. I have a 4 cm cyst on my pancreas (found by mistake while in hospital for something else). My surgeon is recommending Whipple surgery to remove it as a precaution. I'm having an endoscopy in a couple of weeks but he still thinks I should have surgery even if the results are negative. This is because I have a younger brother with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He is 44 and I'm 58. To further complicate the matter, I'm severely disabled with polio (I've spent a lot of time in an out of hospital) and I'm being monitored for prostate cancer due to a high (ish) PSA). If the results are positive for cancer then I will have no cho…
