plastics
Hi all, i am new to this blog and i hope you may be able to help.My Father was diagnosed around 5 weeks ago with PC, he was screened prior to xmas with gallstones and was awaiting treatment. He became jaundiced and his GP sent him to A&E.A scan was done which showed swelling in the bile duct, two days later he had a plastic stent fitted and scrapings taken for analysis. His bloods were improving as the stent seemed to be doing its job,the next day a specialist nurse came to see dad to tell him the cells were cancer and he had three options, surgery, chemo or do nothing,as you can imagine we were all very shocked. Two days later Dad was discharged and we waited for the treatment team to meet, the following week we met the surgeon and the specialist nurse,it was explained that surgery was possible but as Dad is 84 probably not adviseable and to meet with oncologist to discuss other treatment. The technical info from the surgeon was as follow, C5 confirmation of the Pancreatic head adenocarcinoma.Last week we met the oncologist who seemed pretty ill prepared as the specialist nurse was on holiday, he looked at dads case on the computer system and said the scan showed no cancer in the Pancreas and that it must be in the bile duct and he needed to find out for sure as it dictated which type of chemo yo use.The oncologist then seemed to be working out a plan on the hoof and winging it a little, he through many ideas in the air and then seemed to shoot them down. He then decided watch and wait would be best for 3 months and the only chimo he would offer dad was Gemciderbin (sorry spelling probably miles out). We left more confused than when we went in.I want to have a chat with the specialist nurse when he returns from holiday, could anyone give me advice on what i need to ask, it seemed that dads age meant that any treatment was a waste of time and to prepare for the ineviatable. I do not want to give dad false hope, but he is a very fit 84 year old with no other health issues.I hope you can help. Many Thanks
