Diet to support liver function
by EmmaF- 3 replies

Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I’ve just been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer which they believe has spread to my ovaries, peritoneum and liver. I’m awaiting a biopsy for a full picture and don’t yet know what my treatment options (if any) will be. I’m 38 and reasonably active and (until now!) pretty healthy with a reasonable diet - I don’t drink and don’t smoke. I’ve heard from others on this forum the importance of diet at this point to support my liver function - do you have any recommendations of things I should / should not be eating? My appetite is a bit reduced now (although no weight loss yet) so I’m just eating …

I had a Whipple procedure 10 weeks ago as I had a tumour from my bile duct to me duodenum. Part of my pancreas was removed together with part of the bile duct, all my duodenum and gall bladder, part of my stomach and 23 lymph nodes. Two the lymph nodes tested positive for cancer and I see an Oncologist on Thursday to begin chemotherapy. Since the operation my stomach has constantly felt really bloated. I had a lot of constipation at first after the op but that has gradually resolved, but my stomach is really swollen. I am wondering if it is fluid! I had drain after the operation but both were taken out before I left the hospital 7 days post op. The drain hole on th…

Confused about diagnosis

Hello. I found this site while trawling the internet for answers and I've read a few posts, my heart goes out to everyone. My dad had a laparoscopy yesterday, not the first diagnostic procedure as he's also had endoscopy, colonoscopy, another endoscopy with biopsy taken, ct scan and pet scan. The endoscopy with biopsy came back inconclusive so they did a pet scan and yesterday the laparoscopy where they took more biopsies. I should also say that the mass on his pancreas was first spotted 3 years ago when he was diagnosed with stage 2 bowel cancer (operation and chemo and seemed ok). Tests on the mass started end of summer last year when the consultation told him he …

Nutrition

Hi, i need some information about nutrition for my mum, she was diagnosed stage 4 inoperable in mid September, she's been losing weight since june and really rapidly since diagnosis. She's now afraid to eat because of the pain and acid reflux she gets. She's also a bit 'difficult' and set in her ways when it comes to eating . She told me her nutritionist said she could eat anything but when I've looked online for suitable diets for people with pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer it generally says otherwise. She's received some food supplements in the form of puddings which she has around 2 of each day. She has also been prescribed creon, but because she suffers chronic pai…

Hi there, My mum is 18 days post whipple surgery. She was re-admitted to hospital 15 days post op as she hadn’t had a bowl movement since the surgery. She has since had one and is now home. They did a CTscan and found no blockages and no major leakages to cause concern. She is slowly regaining mobility however is extremely fatigued and her mood is very, very low. She has had a few bouts of vomiting with no nausea and now we are only using ondansetron as and when needed. She has almost completely lost her appetite and I’m struggling to get her to eat and drink enough fluid. We want to avoid another hospital stay and tube feeding at all costs. She won’t takenEnsure…

My husband has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer with mets to the Liver. He's only 59 and in all other regards has been very fit and healthy thoughout his life. We are all so shocked at his diagnosis and most anxious that after almost 3 weeks in hospital, he is now awaiting his stent to be ballooned as it was felt it hasn't opened fully. His bilirubin levels have dropped now as the jaundice has subsided. He has a small blockage to the stomach which presumably is where the tumour is pressing so is awaiting a small bypass operation. He is nil by mouth at the moment and is being fed by food bags intavenously. He's so tired all the time from being on a low level morphin…

Hi there..I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and liver mets last September 2019. Happily I'm still here! I had 12 cycles of Abraxane and Gemcitabine on a trial which didn't do much. I've had 10 cycles of Folfirinox which has been very successful. I have low volume stable disease on my last ct scan 2 weeks ago. My tumour markers have dropped dramatically too. I now have 2 months off treatment. My only wee problem is since my picc line was removed Ive noticed the veins around my picc line are a bit more swollen. I've had a scan and doppler which were fine. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi my husband has stage 3 PC.. He's had a whipple and is waiting for chemotherapy.. Recently he has started having problems urinating.. Increased frequency and slow/stop start flow.. He had a sample taken and is clear of infection... Could this be related to his cancer... Or a result of being catheterised!?.. I have a niggling fear of it having already spread.. But I don't know if I'm being overly anxious... Any advice would be great. Jess

Hi, new to the site and forum so I hope I have landed in the right place. I am a fit and well 50 years young mum of 3 (youngest is , working full time. So I am used to being busy and getting on with things, but after suffering increased episodes of abdominal pain I ended up in A&E at the end of May. Following x-Rays and a CT they told me I had a "well defined mass in the pancreatic head and uncinate process measures 45 x 35mm with central enhancing solid mass and surrounding cystic component with peripheral dystrophic calcification". They also mentioned gross dilation of the pancreatic duct and differential diagnosis IPMT vs mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. At t…

Creon
by StPancreas- 9 replies

Hi, My Mum was put on Creon on diagnosis but still has loose floaty, fatty poo. We have upped the doses and she is having to 4/5 x 25000 with a main meal ( child portion) and 2/3 with snacks. Currently takes it with first mouthful - but it is often the second as she forgets. She had an endosopy in May which identified she has a cup and spill, or cascade, stomach and I think this may be causing an issue. Basically her stomach has a shelf and food gets stuck on the shelf until it overflows into the bottom of stomach. I think the creon might be getting stuck on her shelf and therefore not able to help as much as it should. Does anyone take Creon part way through t…

Hello, Not sure where to turn so decided to post here. Just feel scared and lost, and have convinced myself I have PC. Doctor just laughed and said I didn't. Have been feeling unwell for over a year. Had blood tests, ultrasound on my abdominal area and told all fine just gastritis. Have been prescribed 2 types of antacids ( now randitidine) which don't make much difference. Have stools that range from diarrhea, light/pale coloured or small pencil shaped. 99% time float and always appear greasy. I can't remember when they were last even nearly normal. Have really bad wind, gurgling in stomach upper and lower. Pain/pressure below right rib. Also feels like …

Main branch IPMN
by Pam35- 1 reply

My husband has been told that he has MB - IPMN but no signs of cancer, which of course we are very relieved about. He has been advised to have a total pancreatectomy. Is this normal procedure when there is no sign of cancer? What are the chances that this is a misdiagnosis? Is it possible to monitor changes in the pancreas on a yearly basis ? Or is this too risky? If he does not have the operation what are the chances that it will become cancerous? Is it necessary to have his gallbladder and spleen removed? Reading this forum has made me realize that we are in a very fortunate position. Grateful for any advise

Pet Scan for Type 3C
by The_petal- 1 reply

Big cock up with my PET scan today. When I got the phone call yesterday for a PET scan at 4.00 today I was told not to eat or drink after 12.00 and that my blood sugar had to be below 11.0 So at 11.30 I had a cappuccino and checked my blood sugar which was 11.2 so at 12.30 I had a couple of units with the novarapid just to make sure my blood sugar would be OK for the scan. When I got there they wouldn't do the PET scan because I had had a milky coffee and the Insulin injection without food less than 4.00 hours before the scan! No one had mentioned anything about not injecting prior to the scan although I had said at the time of the appointment I was diabetic. Wha…

Newly Diagnosed
by Guest RoseP- 1 reply

Hi My sister, 44, has just been diagnosed with stage 1/2 pancreatic cancer. I have a whole raft of emotions - I feel angry mostly, and go from deep sadness at what she leaves behind (a 10 year old daughter and a loving husband) and what she will miss, to optimism and hope. Sometimes I even feel tremendous guilt as if this shouldn't have happened to her and it should have happened to me. She is the most beautiful, loving person who has had a tough year and this has capped it all off in a brutal way. One of the things that is also on my mind is the possibility I may develop it too...particularly when my kids are asking if it's genetic/hereditary. None of my family…

Enlarged peri-pancreatic lymph node found. Reason for concern?
by Guest Hopeful- 1 reply

Hi, My mother (71 years old, otherwise healthy) just had an ultrasound because she went to the doctor describing some tenderness in her side that she was concerned about. The ultrasound came back as finding one enlarged peri-pancreatic lymph node. The doctor said they would follow up with another ultra-sound in 3 months. Is this a sign of pancreatic cancer? Also, is pancreatic cancer hereditary?

Hi sorry I. M new to this. I was admitted to hospital on monday with suspected appendicitis but that was ruled out after an ultrasound showed a 4cm cyst in the head of my pancreas. This was confirmed with two contact CT scans. My blood were ok no cancer markers and my liver and kidney function is normal. I have been referred to a GI MDT team and they discussed my case yesterday. A nurse rang and told me they want to see me again to explore further and I will get an appointment in the post but probably won't be before xmas. Is this waiting usual? I have been driving myself crazy googling everything I am 43 mother of four and work full time usually totally fit and well …
