Hi Daver,

Sorry to hear you have not been well for over a year now. it is good news that you are now booked in for your operation.

Regarding your weight loss, has this been addressed with you? Have you been referred to a dietician at all? This can be a very common problem prior to a Whipples, and it can be addressed by taking enzyme supplements to aid food digestion, and to enable your body to absorb the nutrition from the food adequately.

Please let me know if this is in hand? You can also look on our diet pages on the website here: http://bit.ly/yv4Vkn

Kind regards,

Jeni.

Thanks Laura I have been reading the posts and find them encouraging and give me hope for the future , happy that your husband bri is doing well and long may it continue . I am 44 and after a dull ache I'm my ribcage and unexplained weight loss for over one year was diagnosed on 14th august big shock , ct scan seems to show that it has not spread to other organs so whipples is the 1st hurdle to overcome and me and my family will deal with whatever it brings , will post after op with updates soon as I feel ok .

Thanks David

Dear David,

I had a Whipple op over two years ago and have recovered very well, I do all I used to do before, just have a little less energy.

Wishing you all the very best for your op tomorrow, will be thinking of you. Do keep in touch and let us know if you have any questions. I have learned so much from this website and the support staff, they are brilliant!

Good luck!

Hi Maxine,

Great news to hear that David had his operation and is doing well. It is great that he has been moved to the ward already.

Please feel free to email me at support@pancreaticcancer.org.uk with the specifics of what you would like to know. I will then try and help you with what questions to ask.

Kind regards,

Jeni.

hi there david, so pleased to hear yourover a big hurdle, your days will vary, rest and sleep have got to be good, brian was in hospital for two weeks district nurses visiting for 6 weeks or so, so you to be out of hosp is brill.

brians appetite was non existent everything tasted awful and tainted with mettallic taste!! he did get on very well with the small bottles of various youghurt flavoured replacement meals, he thrived on them for quite a while,

he also took metoclorpromide or domperidone 2 tabs 4 times daily, never really then suffered with nausea, are you taking enough, i used them as prevention rather than cure ?

all the very best david, take it slowly mind love laura xxx

Hi everyone nearly a month now since my whipples operation , histology report has came back and the specialist nurse has told us that it was duodenal cancer and not PC as previously thought not sure what this means as this seems to be such a rare cancer and information is very limited, seeing the oncologist on friday to discuss my case anyone with any info would be appreciated . Also feeling much better now nearly month down the line after the whipples op nausea has gone appetite returning getting out and about everyday without fail , drove the car the weekend i am relatively pain free and have been for two and a half weeks now no painkillers required , can eat pretty much what I like lots of cakes biscuits chocolate sweets to try and put some weight back on 8st 11lbs these days down from 10st pre op . On a positive note to anyone having the whipples my personal experience is that although a major procedure there is life after whipples and the quicker you get moving around after the op the better physio made me get out of bed and sit in chair the day after op and a positive attitude aids recovery .

Thanks David

Hi Dave - how wonderful to hear how well you have been doing since the op and what hope you have given to others with the prospect of it to come. Do keep us posted about what next. No info to give you with regards to this new diagnosis, I'm afraid, but have my fingers crossed for you that the meeting with the oncologist goes well and that they can help you further. Keep us posted won't you? Keep looking after yourself.
