Travel Insurance Claim Advice

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on how to settle a travel insurance claim with regards to my late Father.

My father was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic Cancer in May 2022 and was given a one year prognosis. The advice given by the doctors were clear, spend as much time with family and friends as you can.

We then decided to book a trip to New York for October of that year. Initially we had struggled to find an insurer that would cover my father.

We then stumbled across ‘All Clear’, an insurance which specialises in policies for those who are terminally ill. My father was relieved when we purchased the policy, costing us over £4000. The forms will filled to the best of our knowledge and his terminal diagnosis was clearly stated.

5 months after his terminal prognosis, while in New York, my father had gastro intestinal bleeding most likely as a result of the Cancer spreading. When we arrived in Boston, he was taken straight to Massachusetts General Hospital where he would spend two nights. The doctors at Massachusetts General were excellent and provided very good care.

Understanding the situation, the doctors gave my father a blood transfusion, enough to make him fit to fly home. When we arrived back in Glasgow ,He passed away two weeks later.

After his death, we began receiving threatening letters from Massachusetts General Demanding $88,000. I then submitted an insurance claim.

After nearly two years, the insurance company are dragging their feet, arguing he was “not fit to fly”, which is untrue. He did not go against the medical advice of doctors.

I’m now at the point where I will submit a formal complaint against the insurance company and refer the case to the ombudsman. This has caused extreme stress on me and my family as I’m looking after my brother who has severe non verbal autism and handling my father’s estate.

Can anyone give me any advice on how I could get this claim resolved?

Many Thanks

Chris

I haven't got any answers for you but I'm having similar issues getting my late Husband's pension people to pay out so I totally get how stressful all of this must be for you,at a time when you certainly don't need any added stress.Maybe contact an ombudsman is my only suggestion.Hope you get it resolved.
