Nat Posted October 13, 2021 Posted October 13, 2021 After months of pain in stomach and back and various tests, my Mum has been told she has PC based on a CT scan and blood tests. 5 months ago the blood tests were clear. She has been referred for an endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) biopsy but is having to wait for 3 weeks from being told to the actual appointment. I know COVID is causing delays but is this a normal amount of time to wait for a prognosis? The appointment is in Southampton hospital and I wondered if all hospitals over the UK are on these kind of time frames? Is it possible to get an appointment elsewhere any sooner? Any advice much appreciated.
PCUK Ellie Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 Hi Nat, I'm glad you've found your way to the forum, though I realise it's not a place anybody wants to be and things are likely very difficult for you and your Mum at the moment. It's great you're looking for information. I'd really encourage you to give the specialist nurses on our Support Line a call. They speak to hundreds of people affected by pancreatic cancer a month, and will be happy to talk to you about what kind of timescales they're seeing and whether that kind of wait time is normal. They can also provide support with things like diet, pancreatic enzymes and pain management, as well as offer a listening ear for how you're feeling. We know it can be really tough supporting a loved one with a diagnosis, and it's important you get support if you want it, too. You might like to check out our online support sessions, particularly the Family, Friends and Carers' Cuppa - the next one is on the 27th. The Support Line number is 0808 801 0707, or you can email a nurse here.
Borobi Posted October 14, 2021 Posted October 14, 2021 My husband waited about that long in January 2019 at a major London teaching hospital with excellent cancer services. I’m sure it would be shorter if you paid, but although it’s incredibly stressful at the time and horrible to wait I don’t think in the long run it makes any difference. Just try & do some nice things to distract yourself. Wishing you all the best with your treatment journey.
Nat Posted October 14, 2021 Author Posted October 14, 2021 Thank you both. It’s so difficult to know what is normal during covid times especially. But both replies really help, so thank you for taking the time to reply.
