Re: Whipples and sore stomach

It is almost 3 years since my operation at last things are looking better and most of the time I feel pretty good. I still get occasionalyy pains in my stomach especially after going to the toilet, I try to control this by taking co-codomol. I have also found it is better if I cut out my evening meal or eat later in the evening instead of my usual time which is 5.00pm. It It has been a long haul but hopefully I will soon be 100%

Re: Whipples & Narrowing of Bile Duct.

Postby worrier » Thu Aug 10, 2017 10:10 am

Hi,

I went through my Whipple's in August 2008 without too many problems. For some time now on occasion I get a pain in my chest similar to having gall stones but not quite so bad, a bit like heartburn without the burning sensation. This develops into sore stomach and a feeling of nausea and on occasion I have actually been sick. After I had the Whipple's, the surgeon did tell me that one of the side affect can be a narrowing of the bile duct and I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem. When it it does occur I have to take to my bed and I shiver and sweat both at the same time. Sometimes this can take a full 24 hours to clear up and then I can be fine again for weeks. Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing?

 Peter

Thanks Peter,

Thank you for your question, and often something we hear of from people a few years after Whipple's surgery. It may be related to a bile stricture as you mention or even some 'reflux back through the roux-loop' that has been created with your Whipple's surgery. I will email you some further details as this is a bit lengthy for the forum and may require some further information on your part.

Hi Dianne,

just to let you know that I do take 1 X 30mg tablet of Lansoprazole every morning and evening before going to bed.
