Dads Scan

Postby rachelqt » Thu May 03, 2012 9:14 pm

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick question, How long approx does it take for scan results? Dad has had his scan on the 16th April and we have heard nothing yet about his results. He is happy enough to wait on them and does not want to chase up on it but as you can imagine my mum and I are getting very impatient!
Hope everyone is well
Thanks Rachel x

Hi Rachel,

I'm sure everywhere is different, but we always had an appointment with the oncologist approx a month after a scan.
Good luck with the results.

hi rachel, brians scans [every 12 weeks] are usually planned for the week before our oncology appt, i so understand your apprehension, i/we feel the same every time, bris next scan is about 14 may and app is 24th, bri is showing anxiety in the way he is behaving, its the same every time,[ he wouldnt agree,] lol, but i spose because now been off chemo for 6 months we get bit more worried!.
yet when we get to see consultant, and entourage, its, how are you brian? hows the eating, tiredness etc etc, then " well the results of scan are ------- its absolutely terrifying, but they say the scan gives them information on what they they cant see, they are more interested in how he looks, feels, pain control etc.
after the consultation and we are given next app, i do fone scanning dept nearer the time and get an app for the week before, if its any closer to the date, results are often not through, perhaps you could try that approach next time?
do hope all is good for dad, thinking of you,
love laura xx

Ah Laura my stomach is doing somersaults with the thought of it. We were really enjoying some good times there after the chemo finished and sort of put the PC to the back of our minds. Now the appointment is through its like mood swing city..lol(can't blame him though)..time to face the music!!
Thats a good tip, might just try that one! Hope you and Bri are doing good, will keep you posted how the results went..Much Love Rachel x

Hi Rachel,

CT results should take approx. 1 week to report fully. Maybe 2 if it is very busy and there is a shortage of radiologists to report them. Some are reported on the day!!

So, 16th April should certainly be enough time for results to be ready.

Jeni.

Hi All,

So we had Dads results today and I have to say I have never felt so nervous in all my life, I had to sit on my hands in the Oncologists office to stop them from shaking!

So things are OK so far for him. The tumor has not got any bigger or any smaller. This time around we asked the size of the tumor and its 2cms (although we were told its not important the size but more the position of it)

We found out today that on his first scan they had seen a spot on his liver and thought it was a cyst, so they did not tell us about it. So this scan showed up that it has changed shape and now they think its a lesion (any info on this would be great as im not too sure what the implications of this is) They said they were not too concerned about it though.

They felt happy that he feels good in himself and has good energy levels to do things. So the they are going to review him every 3 months by doing a scan and CA19-9 markers. If he feels any pain, weakness or starts to loose weight he has to contact them ASAP. If starts to go downhill they will consider doing more chemo.

So is this positive?

Hope everyone is well and thanks for the support...Rachel xx

Dear Rachel,

That sounds like really great news.

I also had lesions on my liver, several times, when they were doing follow-up MRI and PET scans after my Whipple. It seems that sometimes the lesions are simply caused by the liquid they pump in when doing the scans; if the lesions move around and are not in the same place during each scan, it seems they are generally nothing to worry about. A liver specialist did a detailed scan on me and established there was no metabolic activity and after a bit they just disappeared.

Again, Jeni would be able to help you more with this, so do email or call her on the Support line rather than just worrying about it.

Good luck!

Very best wishes,

Sue

Hi Rachel

That sounds great news. I am very pleased for you and your family, hopefully you can take some time to have a normal family life, without the rounds of chemo and hosp apps etc.

Take care, chat soon.
