Newbie

Postby Pablo88 » Thu Apr 02, 2020 3:58 pm

Mum was admitted to hospital 3 weeks ago as she ws constant nauseous and had ultrasound and ct scan that showed something on the liver and had biopsy 13 days ago, we found out yesterday results are in and it's been passed to pancreatic so I'm assuming that by going there it's pc she's fighting. We're awaiting a letter from the team so we know to what extent. But reading here I would hazard a guess that she's stage 4. She and an xray at the beginning of the year showed a shadow on the lung. She has also had a colonoscopy and was meant to have an appointment 31/03 to discuss Cs but was cancelled.
She 1st attended gp at the tail end of the year, with breathing problems, gp kept saying nothing sinister kept sending her away before eventually booking an endoscopy. I truly believe that he's let her down.
The nausea weight loss and lack of appetite and tiredness are draining her, she's frightened.

Hi Pablo88,

It’s Rachel here one of the nurses from the charity. A big warm welcome to the forum, we appreciate it’s not where folk would want to me but I’m sure people on here will make you feel very welcome and support you.

I am sorry to hear of what has been happening with Mum over recent weeks. I’m sorry too to hear that Mum has been experiencing difficulties for some time and action was not taken earlier, I appreciate you’ll feel very hurt and let down by this. Clearly this is a very anxious time compounded by the covid-19 pandemic and these days will not be easy. Are you aware of any next appointments for Mum or can anything be discussed over the telephone? This is what most Hospitals are doing now, not ideal in any way but may be something to ask about if not offered already.

I’m sure there are things we can suggest for Mum is terms of the physical symptoms she is experiencing. You may prefer to contact us specifically to discuss these further – we have a free confidential telephone support service open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday or you can email us at nurse@pancreaticcancer.org.uk

Mum may benefit from taking pancreatic enzymes, you may have heard of Creon? She may also benefit from taking anti-sickness medication especially before trying to eat – 20-30 minutes before. Fatigue is extremely common in pancreatic cancer, this is due to many reasons relating to the cancer itself and also the significant impact that pancreatic cancer has on digestion. I’m sure there are many more things we can talk to you about and advise. Your Mum would be incredibly welcome to call us too if she wished.

Hope to be in touch, thoughts are with you,

Rachel

Thanks for your kind words Rachel. The multi whatever it is team are meeting today. We've to call in this afternoon just to find out when her meeting will be arranged for. The time period is horrible. Things don't seem to move fast enough. She's on some sickness pills and another pill I can't recall but will post later. I've not hear of creon but will research it.
I maybe call in Friday.
Thanks
P

Hi Pablo88

I know the waiting must be awful for you all, I hope you are further forward after your call later today.

Please do contact us, it will be a pleasure to chat on the phone or over email. I’m afraid that our service is closed on Friday as it’s a bank holiday. We’re here today until 4pm on the phone and our normal service will reopen on Tuesday.

Take care and hope to be in touch soon.

Rachel
