Just a heads up for anyone who hasn't heard Mylan are discontinuing production of the 40K tablets in June.

With the shortage of 40K Creon my hospital has suggested I move onto Nutrizym, has anyone had any reports on this.

What I am trying to see is the relative strengths of the two tablets.ie is 1*40k Creon equal to 1 or 2 Nutrizym22, if it is the latter I might as well stay with the 25K Creons.

Hi The petal,

Yes you are correct in saying that Mylan has made the difficult decision to discontinue the 40k Creon capsule as of June 2019.

In terms of Nutrizym 22, this contains 22,000 units of lipase (this is what denotes the dose). Creon 25,000 unit capsules contains 25,000 units of lipase and the 40,000 unit capsules contains 40,000 units of lipase. Therefore it would seem sensible to stick with the Creon 25,000 unit capsules as Nutrizym 22 is not available in a higher dose.

When converting from the 40,000 u to 25,000 u capsules you may not need to take as many as a direct dose conversion and this is important to keep in mind.

Please do touch base with us if you or anyone else would like to discuss this further, we’d be happy to talk and help in any way we can. Our contact is in the signature.

Best wishes,

Rachel

My chemist informed me a coupe of years ago that the 40000 units were not available and I have gone onto 25000 units. I adjusted the amount I take. Where I may have had two 40000 units I now take three or four dependant on fat content of the meal. This seems to work OK
