drtzzr1100 Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Hi all I am new to the forum although I have been reading some posts this is my first. My poor husband who has just turned 58 was diagnosed in October with stage 4 metastatic cancer, tried the chemo for palliative purposes but it made him too poorly so he had to stop. He’s had a stent fitted into bile duct in October also. He is now very weak and we are getting some support from district nurses and McMillan. He can’t eat and says everything tastes bad even drinks , I have tried pineapple juice and a million other things but plain water is all I can get him to have any advice would be appreciated. Today he has had to have injections for pain and sickness from the nurses and looks so frail, it’s heartbreaking how this evil disease strikes and takes over your loved one
Fernack45 Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 Really feel for you and hope you have a peaceful Christmas xxx
drtzzr1100 Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 So the last 2 days have seen significant deterioration syringe driver fitted to help control pain. My husband is very bloated and has been sick (fecal sickness) quite a lot over the last day or two which is very distressing. District nurses give levonopromizone through the driver and additional injections but this hasn’t helped. Still coping at home but it’s getting more and more difficult my husband is getting quite confused and restless. Waiting for McMillan nurses to come today and see what else we can do to help him and manage these symptoms, any advice would be greatly appreciated if any members have tried other things ? Out of hours GP came out yesterday and prescribe Buscopan but these so aft haven’t had any effect

drtzzr1100 Posted January 2, 2019 Author Posted January 2, 2019 Thank you Rachel, we have been told my husband has 2-4 weeks to live which as you can imagine is devastating news for all of us. We are keeping him at home with support from McMillan and the District Nurses as this is what he wants. Not sure the reality of this has sunk in for any of us yet, to go from a fit and healthy man of 58 to this in 3 months is hard to accept. I hope and pray they find an early detection method for this horrible disease to prevent others from suffering this. Broken-hearted angry and helpless sum up our feelings.
PCUK Nurse Rachel R Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 Dear drtzzr1100,I'm incredibly sorry to hear this news. My heart goes out to you all. BromsgroveSister Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I am so sorry to hear this awful news.My brother was a similar age to your husband so I can understand the shock and distress you are feeling. All I can suggest is be with your husband as much as you can, hold his hand and talk to him.It is incredibly difficult to come to terms with being told that you have such limited time, but if you can try and make that time count.I played lots of music to my brother. He loved music so much. And I held his hand as much as I could. This is an awful disease, a cruel unforgiving disease.Eventually, I will do as much as I can to try and raise as much money as possible to fund research and awareness of this disease. At least then maybe families like ours will not have to go through what we have had to go through.Much love xxxxx
drtzzr1100 Posted January 12, 2019 Author Posted January 12, 2019 So yesterday my brave husband lost his battle with this evil disease. He passed away 13 weeks from being diagnosed at home peacefully with all his family around him. To all of you who are part of this forum I pray you have a better outcome and I will do all I can to help to raise funds and just as importantly awareness to try to stop this from happening over and over again to our loved ones. I don’t know how we will all go forward as a family but in his honour and in line with the bravery and dignity he displayed throughout we will endeavour to do so. X
