My partner was operable (last autumn) but had to stop chemo early because of poor kidney function. He was referred to kidney specialist who said chemo could restart but at lower dose and with some precautions prior to treatment. But on his next appt he was told by a junior oncologist (not the one he usually saw) that it had been agreed no more treatment. This was 4 weeks ago. He had blood tests and was due to go back to see his regular oncologist around now which had been delayed because of first her being on holiday and then us. But he had to go back to see a junior oncologist last week when he developed pain suddenly a week a go. He had been told his tumour levels a month ago were normal but it turns out they were already rising and nobody told him and more importantly no action was taken by the hospital. The levels are now back to pre-op levels. I think I am actually in denial that this neglect by the hospital could cost him his life or at least shorten it considerably. He should have been able to restart chemo a month ago when, as we now know, the tumour marker levels had only just started to rise. god knows what they will find now on the scan this week. Feel utterly defeated!

I don't know what to say, you must feel so let down, it makes you want to scream at someone. Really hope that scan is ok,

As if this disease isn't hard enough to battle, you have to deal with incompetence as well. I don't like to bash the NHS, they do great work but unfortunately there is a lot of incompetence around.

I hope you get better actions in the future.

Didge, I'm thinking of you and completely understand the defeated feeling. I really hope things aren't as bad as you fear and the rise is to do with something less sinister like infection.

Didge, so sorry to read yet another ' been let down by the medical profession ' post. Hope you find some strength to complain and to make your views heard.

Please let is know how the scan goes.

Didge, it is all so worrying and the waiting is awful, Trevor's markers too are on the rise, its 11 months since his surgery too. Markers were 220 on 19/5 then 846 on the 30/6 we are waiting for an appointment for a scan which was in the diary to be booked on 01/8 so I know exactly how you are feeling. You worry about just what is happening inside, every ache or pain or not feeling well, and the worry increases. I just hope we get an appointment soon, and that the results of you scan are good, please take care sandrax
