Sue, I'm sorry to hear of your mums decline, nil by mouth seems crazy, unless they are just wanting to monitor all fluids in and out. Will they let her such ice cubes.

Sue,

So sorry to come on here and read your Mum is nil by mouth. Rsk made a great suggestion with the ice cubes. Surely she can do that. At least they are giving her food.

Has anything happened today? I do hope so. Your poor Mum, she is really going through it. The waiting you both are having to do is appalling. Something needs to be done, days ago. Where is the level of care???

Really really hope you come back and post something positive before Tuesday.

Sue,

Poor you and poor Mum, the waiting is just horrendous, I really feel for you, there is just no sense of urgency, and it is urgent that it gets sorted, it was just the same with Trevor's drain, it just got put off and put off, lets hope you get something sorted.

Re the fluids, they did say when Trevor was really poorly that giving them fluid by mouth can cause problems, as the body can't absorb it as it just goes into the body, and collects didn't really take it in to be honest, but it was something on those lines. Mum should be able to have the sponge lollipops to moisten her mouth which will help to make her more comfortable.

Ask to speak to the doctor, and ask him why, at least if they explain things its easier for you to understand why things are done and you won't have that feeling of frustration.

I hope that they get things moving for her soon, love sandrax xx

Yesterday they suddenly decided to take Mum for an endoscopy! All I know is they have put a balloon in her stent! Not sure what that is! She is still nil by mouth and I haven't managed to speak to a DR yet! Last night they were moving her to a ward as she was on the surgical assessment unit! Hopefully the ward will be better.

She is completely and utterly fed up! Does anyone on here know anything about the balloon?

It might be like a balloon angioplasty, but used to try and open a partially blocked stent.

Thank you for your replies Sue and Leila, I have been in touch with a specialist nurse from this site who has proved to be most helpful.

Wishing the best for your Mum, Sue and I hope that things get better soon

Thankyou for the replies sort of understand the balloon a bit better now. Been asking to see a DR for 2 days but no luck so far! Getting slightly irritated now! When I go in tonight I hope I get a few answers as to what is happening! She is allowed drinks but still on intravenous food!

Thinking of everyone today. Xxx

Finally a DR has explained! Not good news...the cancer is blocking the stent and bowel! Her only options are to stay as she is or have an operation! They have said she might not survive the operation but if she does she could be home within a week and have some quality of life! It is Mum's decision but really she has no option . She wants to be at the wedding in August!

I think I am numb at the moment don't know what to think or feel!

Hi Sue,

At least there are options. Whatever your Mum decides to do, will be the right decision. I think we both know what she will do. She is a very determined lady.

If she has the operation, when will it take place? Will it be in the same hospital?

Hi Sue,

I am sure they would not offer the operation unless they thought your Mum had a good chance at pulling through, but as you say its up to her.

Thinking of you and sending big cyber (((hugs))) to you all.

Just had a call from my stepfather to say he went in to see her and they have taken her to surgery! She said to him, "hope I see you later" . I am actually beside myself. I haven't spoken to her today she didn't ring or text me and I was going in at 6p.m! Please let her get through this! Sue x

You can't help but admire your Mum's bravery. She is a true hero. She so wants to be at the wedding, and my god does she deserve to be. She's a wonderful lady. I'm proud of her, so your pride must be immense.

Everything crossed for this operation.

I am happy to say Mum made it through the operation! She went at 3.30 and wasn't back on the ward until 1130p.m! It was a long day to say the least and no one rang us so I slept awful! She had low blood pressure so was in recovery for quite a while! Finally saw her this afternoon and this evening and she was very sore and tired but chatty. She has been told the operation has gone well. Tomorrow or Thursday they are going to inject a dye to check it out!

She is the bravest woman I know as it was so traumatic for her yesterday. Firstly she was taken down to have PIC line removed and another one put in which took 3 hours as her veins are so small. She was then told she might not make it through the anaesthetic how awful! She had a general and epidural!

When I saw her today she said she didn't know if she would be here and I told her I knew she would as she hadn't text or rang me so she couldn't go anywhere.

I know we still have a long way to go and she is still vulnerable but she made it through!

I am exhausted but I can't complain!

Thankyou for all your support it means a lot.

Love to everyone.

Sorry pleased to read this Sue.

Last few hours I were starting to worry. Been checking to hear something.

Your Mum is amazing, and tell her that we all think she is.

I imagine you are absolutely shattered with emotional stress.

Great news Sue, what a fighter your mum is. You must be exhausted, hopefully you will sleep well tonight!

Quick update Mum allowed soup and ice cream today! She is having dye injected tomorrow to check the operation has worked. Her blood pressure is very low and she is tired but that's not surprising. She isn't out of the woods yet with regards to the op but all I can say is she is amazing! The hospital have also been amazing on this occasion!
