My husband massive pleural enfussion

Hello everyone

Cathy can only say Gem/Cap was a treatment that Terry took very well and seems a doddle compared to Oxiplatin/Capecitabine. Terry has been lucky at the moment that he has not had the tingling in the hands and feet but he has suffered a lot of stomach pain over the last 2 days. No sickness but he does not feel like eating due to the stomach pain. If he is not better tomorrow will give doctor or oncologist a call just to double check everything is as it should be. Damn pain not knowing what to expect. Terry is not the sort of person to sit doing nothing so finding this quite hard as he has not been able to do much with this pain. Will have a look at the furry throw Sarah as I think I am going through the change so feel hot all the time but Terry doesn't so this sounds like a good idea. Hope you all had a good weekend.

Such a pity Terry is experiencing chronic stomach pain following his new chemo. I'm still sticking to Gemcitabine on its own but intend to question my Professor at our next meeting. It has stabilised all but the one small lesion on my liver and as I've had no pain or other side effects I've been quite happy to plod on.

Think I'll be taking my feisty daughter Elaine to this appointment for moral support as she is a bit like a dog with a bone and won't relent until all her questions have been answered. I'm also planning to raise subject of Nano-knife so will see what reaction that elicits.

Love and Peace

Also, sorry for being a numpty with my 1st chemo story. Of course you've been round this park thoroughly before haven't you. Just a different park.

Hoping they get to the bottom of that pain and get it sorted soon.

That does look lovely Sarah.

Lyn - our first GemCap has gone smoothly and it defintiely (so far) seems to be far more easily tolerated. I'm sorry that Terry has stomach ache. Is he moving his bowels ok? It would definitey be worth having a word with the Onc about this. Jonathan is still experiencing pain although has been a little more comfortable since his chemo restarted last week.

Hope Terry is feeling a bit better today

Hi Lyn, pleased to hear Terry's chemo went well but not so pleased he is having a few stomach problems. Really hope you get this sorted quickly.

Good luck for the next session.

Mike, good luck at your meeting, hope you get some positive feedback re nanoknife!

Cathy, Sorry to hear Jonathan still has a bit of pain, but sounds like it might improve with more chemo sessions? Good that he's tolerating it well too.

Fingers crossed everything continues on an upward curve!

thank you Cathy, Sarah, Mike & Julia for your replies

We have an appointment with oncologist tomorrow as Terry is really not tolerating the Oxiplatin at all. Went to the GP yesterday and he now has shingles on his face and that combined with the stomach and shoulder pain has made him really down and for the first time he actually looks unwell. We are going to look at the possibility of going back on Gem/Cape as he was fine on this although we understand this may not be possible due to the liver tumours. Hopefully there will be another option as I really don't think he will have another go at Oxiplatin. We totally understand that everyone's side effects are different but this is the first time he has taken oral morphine and this did not even get the shoulder pain. Can only assume that this is associated with the liver but will ask anyway. Will keep you informed of what the oncologist suggests and will also check on nanoknife, if maybe it could be used on the liver, although not holding out much hope.

Hi Lyn

We are on Gemcap and Jonathan has got liver tumours (although he has had these since diagnosis). Coincidentally he also has right shoulder blade pain which his Onc has said is likely referred from the liver due to where his tumour is. We are hoping that the chemo will zap the b*gger again.

He also has stomach pain and we are trying to get his pain med at the right level (currently 50mg oxycontin twice a day) - I know there is scope for this to go much higher. I'm sorry to hear that Terry has developed shingles though - no wonder he feels low as I know that can be uncomfortable.

I do hope that things go well for you both Lyn.

Dear Lyn, so sorry to hear Terry now has shingles to contend with! This disease is so awful as I know only too well.

Really hope Terry can get back on the gemcap, that would give him a bit of a boost and its something he's comfortable with - fingers crossed for you.

Will be thinking of you both. Please tell Terry, there are plenty of people behind him.

Much love

Hello everyone

Latest update is that Terry has to see an eye specialist today as the shingles have made the eye close a little. Generally though feeling much better and the oncologist has now put up his steroid tablets to 2 per day to help with the shoulder pain. He seems to think the stomach pain has not been caused by the chemo but constipation although he has been taking the medicine given to us for this. The oncologist feels that Terry should have another blast of Oxiplatin but not until 30th Dec. Personally I really wish he could have stayed on Gem/Cape as he tolerated this so well so I hope that Jonathan does the same Cathy. Thank you all for your thoughts. Hopefully we are over the worse and he can enjoy Christmas. Lots of love Lyn xx

  • 3 weeks later...

On Monday 16th Dec my husband went into the oncology centre in Cheltenham with what was first thought to be a chest infection. This was not the case it was the cancer on the march. He came home on Friday evening but woke at 5 am with terrible pains in his stomach. We were so lucky to be able to get him into our local hospice where we were told he may not last the day. He did rally round and seemed to relax in the knowledge he was in the best place. Terry the most wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away on Christmas Day at 7.30 pm.

We will never forget him but he has made that definite now with going on Christmas Day. That is the sort of person he was work hard and play hard and would never turn down the chance to party. We love you with all our heart Terry and would like to thank everyone one this site for all their help and support over the 6 months that Terry was living with pancreatic cancer. Thinking of you all love Lyn xx

Hi Lyn

I am so very sorry and sad to hear of Terry's passing. He sounded like such a positive man, a real fighter, it seems so unfair. And you have been so supportitive too of others.

Wishing you lots of love and virtual hugs and strength for you and your family for the next few days and weeks ahead.

Lyn,

I send you all good wishes. I lost my Chris 14 days ago and we had the funeral on 23rd, so I know how hard this is. Nothing will make it better but all I can suggest is go with the flow and take it hour by hour. I continue to do so.

Would just to like thank each and everyone of your for your kind messages. My granddaughter has put everything into words by saying he was a special granddad so died on a special day what more can you ask for Nanny.

I really hope they find something that can give hope to the thousands of people that are affected by pancreatic cancer as until it actually touches your family we are not really that aware of how dreadful this cancer is.

Once again thank you and thinking of your all.

love Lyn xx
