Large liver

Hi, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and liver metastasis in September 2018. I have my 3rd round of chemo ((folirinox) on Thursday and whilst I am managing the chemo well and I appear to be a lot stronger, fitter and well in myself my liver remains quite large...…..will it shrink if the chemo is successful in reducing the size of the tumours in my liver :?:

Um interesting question Theresa. Are the liver tumours particularly large? I am not sure why they would make the liver bigger or if there is something else happening? Are you taking milk thistle to protect the liver? I am pleased that you are feeling fitter and stronger that is indeed a good sign that the chemo is nailing the tumour. It was round 4 that finally got rid of any pain which was lovely. I am due round 11 on Friday but fear it will be postponed because I have had a really bad cold for the last week. I am going to take a leaf out of Kate2101 book and visualise it being superheated and turning to cinders.

I suggest giving the lovely nurses a ring, they will be able to advise.

Thank you Erika, I will try to ring the nurse tomorrow. I have not heard of milk thistle but will look it up. I hope your cold clears up very soon and hat your treatment can resume as soon as, you have done very well to get to round 11. Good luck for Friday.

Hi Theresa,

Milk thistle helps reduce some of the chemo side effects and also protects the liver. Certainly I have not lost my hair this time around and my liver function is almost normal despite all the chemo. So it looks like it is doing something. You can get it in tablet form from local healthfood shops. Best wishes,

Erika.
