Picc line

Recommended Posts

Hi there..I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and liver mets last September 2019. Happily I'm still here! I had 12 cycles of Abraxane and Gemcitabine on a trial which didn't do much. I've had 10 cycles of Folfirinox which has been very successful. I have low volume stable disease on my last ct scan 2 weeks ago. My tumour markers have dropped dramatically too. I now have 2 months off treatment. My only wee problem is since my picc line was removed Ive noticed the veins around my picc line are a bit more swollen. I've had a scan and doppler which were fine. Has anyone else had this problem?

After my Picc line was removed I suffered quite bad shoulder and arm pain for a couple of months. It was especially bad at night. Apparently this is not unusual. The pain slowly subsided although the area where the line was inserted still feels kinda strange (though not painful) a lot of the time.

Best wishes.

Thanks Paul.. glad to hear this. Funnily enough I had absolutely no problems whilst the picc line was in!

Best wishes Jenny.

PCUK Nurse Rachel R

hi Jennypennyroll65,

It's Rachel here, one of the nurses at the charity. Great to hear that you have had a very good response to Folfirinox. This could possibly be something like phlebitis, i.e. inflammation of the vein where the PICC was inserted. It would just be a case of keeping an eye on this, if it becomes red, sore and angry looking then you would need to have this checked. It does sound though that you have brought this to the attention of your clinical team as you mention a scan.

If you do want to chat more then do give us a call or an email and we'd be happy to discuss in further detail.

I hope it settles down soon.
