Re: Best day so far

Karen and Julia, hi. Temp recovered to normal. Have either of your guys got claxane injections for DVT? Bill absolutely hates doing those, I think it's quite sore. He does them himself every day and moans about them. I think the needle is long, you stick it in your tummy area and there is a kind of ...

Re: Best day so far

Karen.....unbelievable what you are telling me about the hospital that is shocking! I was all cock o' hoop earlier, now Bills temperature has dropped. He is freezing cold, wrapped in a blanket. I think he is just over tired as we had quite a few callers in today and he finds that so tiring. I even h...

Re: Best day so far

Karen......I could sell cookery books! Don't use them much but I buy them. I like to think of myself as a creative cook! What I really mean is I chuck things in and hope for the best. I am having to change my style though because Bill couldn't tackle a curry just yet. Retail therapy involved Boots a...

Best day so far

I just want to say to anyone who is worrying about starting chemo......in our experience it is working well. Bill is much more interested in food and eating better than he has done in months. The pain is under control and he is feeling SO much better after three weeks. Side effect......extreme tired...

Re: my dad, no appetite dizzy and wobbly

Stanley, hi. My husband was like this last weekend and ended up in hospital. Blood pressure fell through the floor all due to dehydration. He could not string a sentence together. Your dad needs to drink and drink even if its constant cups of tea. I could not believe what dehydration could cause. If...

Re: Gem/cap

Hi Julia. Bill got out on Sunday. The fluids did the trick quite quickly. We went out today!!!! Yay.....to marks and Spencer. Looking for things to redecorate a bedroom and to have a little bit of lunch. Well I thought he was going to have to climb into one of the beds. This was his Wednesday off ch...

Re: This is it

Dfarmer. You are clearly having the worst few days of your life. Just shocking. My heart goes out to you. Pain free is all you want for your loved one. So so hard if they are in obvious distress and you can do nothing. Thinking of you and hope things are not too agonising

Re: Gem/cap

Dianne. I didn't get to the wedding! We ended up at the hospital. Low blood pressure due to dehydration which made him all fuzzy in the head. That plus very severe pain last night and this morning meant that we were six hours waiting for a bed and I am now back home. Bill hopefully will just need to...

Re: Gem/cap

Hi J Yeah Bill just has no energy whatsoever. Asleep all the time. Tonight though we had a bit of a pain episode. He went to bed in the afternoon and woke up in the early evening in total agony. I was so worried. It took several hours but eventually he became more comfortable and now sound asleep on...

Re: Gem/cap

Thanks Dianne, yes Bill takes steroids as well. As for out and about, I would love if he was able to go out at all but he is just too poorly all the time. The only time he leaves home is to go to hospital and even car journeys to the hospital are not comfortable. I keep hoping that his energy will p...

Re: Gem/cap

Thanks everybody! I read all of those replies out to Bill and he was definitely reassured by what everyone was saying. The support is great here isn't it? I mean at the hospital there are lots of people in the same position but they sit for hours and hours not speaking to each other. I guess some fo...

Gem/cap

Have I got the name of this chemo correct? Bill now on his third week of it. One IV drip on Wednesdays and 7 tablets each day. Three weeks on and one off basis. Does anyone know anything about it? It seems to agree with Bill ok so far, apart from extreme tiredness. He isn't sick or anything but we h...

Re: scared

Hi J. You have made a good decision by using this forum as everyone on here is in the same boat. Yes the disease is terrible and you want to sometimes scream why me? Why us? Since your uncle has decided not to have chemo I think the best help you can give is make sure he is as pain free as possible....

Re: Pain!

So 80mg OxyContin night and morning......that dosage has helped loads. First chemo yesterday, yes Bee it's gem/cap he is getting. Very long tiring day but now we know what to expect next week. Luckily we live close enough to the hospital to come home for a few hours after the bloods are done and nip...

Re: Help on pain control

Hi there. In our experience the pain is the worst thing and I was surprised at how many patients do no experience that terrible pain. My husband Bill is now on OxyContin 80 mg night and morning and 30 mg of oxynorm for breakthrough pain. He had his first chemo experience today, nine hours at the hos...
