Ted 29.8.46 - 9.4.12

My beloved Ted passed away at approximately 6:50 this morning. I was with him, albeit asleep. His passing was very peaceful and his suffering is now over.

Re: Nicki

Thank you all. I am sending this from my i phone sitting beside ted in our oncology unit. The doctors think it will only be hours to days now. I am devastated.

Re: Nicki

Thank you all so very much, this is extremely touching. Life is pretty tough right now but I'm just so grateful that Ted is still here. I'm coping by doing the practical things I can - in the last couple of days Ted has had to reluctantly accept that he just can't get upstairs any more, so I bought ...

Re: a familiar story

Hi S and I'm sorry to hear about your Mum.

Tiredness is something which is common with this disease. My husband gets days when he is more tired than others and it's important to make use of the times when he has more energy.

You and your Mum are in my thoughts.

Kind regards

Re: Really confused

Hi Barbara My husband was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer in February 2009 and he is still with us! For a good portion of that time he had a reasonable quality of life and we saw each day as a blessing, so don't despair. Unfortunately, since Christmas, Ted has been deteriorating and I am...

Re: Devastated

Oh Bec, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Is the hospital your husband is attending a Specialist Centre (see here for details: http://www.pancreaticcancer.org.uk/information-and-support/your-local-specialist-centre). If not, you should ask that he is referred to the local Specialist Centre straight aw...

Re: My Dad's suffering.

Hi Ames and I'm pleased your Dad had a 'good' day yesterday. It's important to appreciate any little pleasures we get. Your Dad is possibly still in shock and probably also wants to 'protect' you from knowing the worst of it. When the time is right, perhaps you could explain to him that if you don't...

Re: My Dad's suffering.

Hi Ames and I'm sorry to hear your news. I was in shock for about three weeks after my hubby, Ted, was diagnosed, so I think you are being very coherent! The enormity of the whole thing is incomprehensible, so you just have to take one day at a time and deal with each problem as it arises. So, takin...

Re: Ted - an update

Despite having the drain last month Ted has another build up of ascites. His legs stayed swollen the whole time between and last night they started weeping - literally the fluid having nowhere to go and oozing through the skin. His stomach is swelling again and he had an urgent review appointment th...

Re: My Dad

Dear Steve and Gill I don't want to give false hope but it is quite frequent to find that chemo leaves one feeling weak and tired, and with a chest infection too, I'm not surprised your Dad is struggling at the moment - let's hope that after a good rest your Dad will feel much better. One of the wor...

Re: Ted - an update

Thanks Millyjo for your thoughts. Ted had his drain yesterday - there was the usual mix up at the hospital, resulting in him having to stay much longer than necessary because no one told the nurses he was supposed to have blood tests before the drain was inserted. Still, it was worthwhile - he is fe...

I'm so pleased for you both Laura....but I know where you are coming from, there have been times where I've almost felt guilty about having positive news when so many are facing heartache. Remember, though, that this board reflects life - both positive and negative news is important and when we can ...

Re: Ted - an update

Hi everyone and thank you for all the kind words and support. Ted somehow keeps going. Only yesterday he was trying to pick stuff up off the floor - he ended up spread-eagled, face-down, on the sofa unable to get up (I will leave the picture of me trying to lift him off the sofa to your imagination,...
