lost dad this morning.

So I have moved from Advanced Pancreatic Cancer site to loss and memorial. I lost my dad to PC this morning after suffering for a year. So glad he is at peace and sad he has gone. It was a privilege to be with him as he passed.

My wonderful, lovely Dad passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by his family. Glad his suffering is over but I will miss him dearly.

Re: Only 1 week left with my dad

Thanks for all your kind thoughts. This forum has been excellent both in terms of support from the nurses who are awesome and from so many people willing to share their stories. D Coleman - symptoms are so different but yes, dad has struggled with his bowels and not been eating for a while. My advis...

Re: Only 1 week left with my dad

Thank you. The lack of pain so far is a blessing for us all. The only distressing thing is fecal vomiting. But that seems to be settling with medication.

Re: Only 1 week left with my dad

Thank you Leila. Today his pulse is very weak and he is asleep all of the time. Doesn't seem to be in pain. His district nurse said she would be Suprised if he made it through the weekend.

Only 1 week left with my dad

So yesterday I got the call I had been dreading from my mum asking me to come down as she felt dad was close to the end. He has gone downhill quite suddenly. Can't get out of bed, sleeping lots, vomiting black bile, very little urine output. Nurse from hospice came to assess him and says he has just...

Re: Is this the beginning of the end?

Hi Diane, Thanks for your response. Don't think dad needs a duodenum stent because he had some kind of billary bypass when he had his failed whipples attempt in January. This created 2 tubes to his stomach I think? Or maybe intestine? He had a duodenal stent removed permanently during this process a...

Is this the beginning of the end?

Hi everyone I've been with dad this weekend and he is not well at all. He cannot keep any food down - banana, soup...nothing of any substance and this is not new but considerably worse. He has no appetite for food at all and Dr's have said he is anorexic. He is taking fluid but not in any great amou...

Re: Dad's symptoms - vomiting after most meals

Thanks for the replies everyone - and I dis speak with a nurse who was really really helpful as always. Sue - this is what I'm afraid of but he had a bypass when they were unable to do the whipples which means he shouldn't get a blockage at all. But as the nurse said yesterday, PC is an unknown beas...

Dad's symptoms - vomiting after most meals

Hi all. Dad was diagnosed in January with locally advanced PC after a failed whipple attempt. He had a billary bypass and was until recently on gemcap for palliative chemo. He stopped treatment 3 weeks ago as he thought some of his symptoms may be due to chemo. However, there has been no noticeable ...

Re: Dad deteriorating - advice please!

Thanks for all the good wishes and comments. His next appointment is in 2 weeks time. Today, mum tells me, he cannot even make the step down into the garden because he is so breathless. From the chair to the back door is only about 10 steps. I live 2 hours away so haven't seen him for a few days. I ...

Re: Dad deteriorating - advice please!

Thanks for your advice and comments. I just don't know what to think. I watch my mother in law die of lung cancer 6 years ago and it just isn't the same beast. I watch dad throwing up bile and don't know whether it's cancer or post operative complications. Similarly, is his sleepiness the growth of ...

Dad deteriorating - advice please!

Hi everyone, so glad to have found this forum. I wanted some advice/opinions on my 69 year old dad. He was diagnosed with PC last October after he started showing signs of jaundice and bowel problems. He went through an MRI and Ct which showed what doctors thought was a small cancer in the head of t...
