Re: PC journey from Downunder
Dear Jane, Jeni and everyone, I had an appointment with my surgeon yesterday evening and he confirmed that Jeni (as always!) is right, In the past, the precise dosage of enzymes in each Creon capsule could not be guaranteed, so patients were advised to follow a low fat diet but this is no longer the...

Re: PC journey from Downunder
Dear Jane, A belated welcome to this wonderful forum. I had a Whipple four years ago, the tumour on my pancreas was non-malignant, but quite a lot of my insides were removed and the remainder re-routed. Regarding Creon, I take about 6-8 of the 40,000 tablets every day. I have 2-3 with main meals and...

Re: B12 deficiency
Dear Sue, That is very interesting. In the North-East my GP and surgeon refused to even test me for vitamin D, but now I have moved slightly further south I have been tested, my level was found to be low, and I have been prescribed high doses. No one has mentioned B12, so I will mention that when I ...

Re: Epigastric hernia
Oh, that's interesting! I had 40% of my stomach removed, along with my gall bladder, quite a lot of my pancreas and other bits & pieces. It's a wonder it all held together for so long really! Please reassure your husband's friend that there is nothing to worry about!

Epigastric hernia
Dear All, I had a Whipple in 2010, had follow-up scans every six months and, in 2013, a scan revealed that I had an epigastric Richter hernia containing the anterior wall of a short segment of transverse colon. I had the operation to repair the hernia earlier this month. I opted for a private hospit...

Re: Post whipples back pain
Dear Rachel, It sounds as if you are doing really well, considering that you only had your Whipple 12 days ago. Fantastic! I had a Whipple in 2010 and was in hospital for 3 weeks, then convalescing for about 3 months. Don't try to do too much too soon. Have you been prescribed Creon to help with dig...

Important to be VERY PUSHY
Dear All, As many of you know, I had a Whipple in Brussels in 2010, have recovered very well. But in Brussels the surgeon underlined to me the importance of taking Vitamin D3 supplements as my body will not digest that vitamin well after the operation. But when I came back to the UK in 2012, no one ...

Re: Thanx Very Much Coronation Street ....
As well as having been affected by what was thought to be pancreatic cancer (had a Whipple in 2010, tumour was benign), I volunteer for Samaritans. We hold the view that each person has the right to make decisions about their life and we respect those decisions. We all respond to pancreatic cancer, ...

Dear Amanda, So very sorry to hear your news. The fortified drinks are something to push for, just to get some nutrients into your husband. Also has anybody mentioned whether he should be taking Creon to help him digest his food? Do contact the support nurses on this site as they give excellent advi...

Re: How late during or after a meal can you take Creon?
Hello Edwina, My consultant told me there is no point in taking Creon after a meal, you have to take the tablets before & during the meal. Some Creon has to be already in the stomach before the food starts going down, the rest can be taken during the meal, but not after. I hope this helps! Best wish...

Re: side effects creon
Dear All, A couple of points: I find that since my Whipple I cannot digest milk. It leads to an immediate trip to the loo and it just goes straight through me. So I don't drink milk at all. I very occasionally have a plain yoghourt or a bit of cheese but dairy seems not to agree with me. I am now on...
