Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Thank you Jeni - I know what you say is logical but for some time to come I will continue to worry-wart about how I should have pushed him to be more pro-active. But hey I understand the need to NOT do that. Today I've finally managed to make contact with someone in his family, and also received a c...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Thanks to everyone who's responded. What of course is the follow-on nightmare is the admin juggling act which makes you feel you're barely thinking of your partner you're so busy with phone calls etc...... then some little thing will happen, or you'll think 'oh that's ok I'll ask Phil' ........... o...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
I also posted about my son but I'll just do this one & hope anyone who's been thoughtful enough to respond will see it........ Phil died yesterday lunchtime. Was taken by ambulance Thursday morning, didn't get to a ward until after midday, we got the first flight we could, taxi for over two hours, g...

Re: Already Hormonal Teen playing up after Dad's diagnosis
Thanks again. Will Google now. Thankfully on one of my many attempts to get him up, C said he just couldn't cope and two sets of warring friends was the way to start getting him to talk; he's not getting up at the moment but I feel he will. We at least have started talking about the fact he wants th...

Already Hormonal Teen playing up after Dad's diagnosis
I parent our 14 (nearly 15) year old son most of the time on my own because my other half - who was diagnosed a week ago, inoperable, drain next week chemo hopefully startingnext week too - lives in the UK, we live in Spain. He's been difficult for several months but as soon as we got the news he wa...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Of the many other worries I have, the fact he's barely eating (maybe a bowl of cereal and half an avocado in a day on a good day) really frightens me because how can his body even survive, let alone fight..... any suggestions other than the obvious 'little sips, little bits, little and often' which ...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Thanks Marmalade. No stent (does that mean drain?) yet - a whole week to wait unless they can bring it forward. Will try to find out what strength creon. Not in hospital, at home - but I'm in Spain, he's in the UK (working to remedy that) ... nb he's my other half, not my Dad, and we're hoping we ca...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Ok so this afternoon Phil had his first Creon tablet, one, with a light lunch/snack of avocado and something else not very substantial. This evening he's having horrible phlegm/acid reflux and is convinced it's the Creon. I think he'd pinned his hopes it would stop his indigestion, not realising it'...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Not yet taking creon - I've given him a list of all the points to ask about when he gets the opportunity, but there's only so much I can do at a distance; he's getting really stressed about lists & (probably pain and fatigue) not as pro-active and inclined to push for his rights as he would otherwis...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Thanks Peter. Unfortunately the hospital hasn't got a specialist pancreatic cancer unit but the oncologist is a GI specialist; I'm hoping that is good enough providing I keep on top of googling and looking in here to know the questions I need to ask, the prodding I need to do. At the moment he's up ...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Thank you so much everyone who's responded. I've at least 387 supplementary questions which I'll come to in due course; but I wanted to say what a wonderful resource this is - even if none of us would be here by choice. I so value the fact people are prepared to share, advise, and simply be there. H...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Thanks - haven't yet got the name of a specialist nurse but maybe just ringing the unit even out of hours someone could help? Does that kind of service happen? And what about the drain issue? How urgent makes a difference? at the moment it sounds as though nothing 'active' will happen for at least a...

Re: New Diagnosis, First Oncologist Meeting tomorrow
Just home in Spain, wish I didn't have to leave him but atleast he has a neighbour/friend who's been really helpful.
What do you mean by 'too long' getting the drain? Specifically? And do you base that on what doctors said afterwards,or just your gut feeling?
