Need advice as very worried

Hi I hope you get a diagnosis soon as to what is causing your symptoms and then you know what you are battling and can go all out to meet whatever it is head on. It's a worrying dill ema when you don't know and are unable to take the right steps to dealing with it. Retirement is right up there at the top of the stress tree and involves a whole life change but hopefully you can get some kind of diagnosis and can start your retirement journey.Take care

Elaine

Marmalade and Elaine - thank you for your replies.

Sorry for the late replies but I have not been too well this last couple of days. I decided to try the anti depressant tablets and took one at 9pm on Wednesday night. Woke up early on Thursday morning feeling very nauseous and that continued for the rest of the day along with a sore head. Really had no energy at all. I've read that this is a common side effect with Citalopram but as I already have digestive issues I really wasn't sure if it was a further symptom of that. All I know is that I felt 10 times worse than ever before.

I never really felt comfortable taking these types of tablets as I don't feel it's the answer so I have decided not to take any more just now. Today I am still feeling very nauseous with even less appetite than before. I hope this improves soon.

It is very difficult, everyone round me has been struck with tummy bugs of late so I'm afraid I can't offer any comfort. Could be the antidepressants in which case another one might be better or none, might be a bug, might be so many things. I'm afraid its back to the GP next week if you are not feeling any better and ask that some proper investigation take place.

I have managed to avoid the bugs but several friends have been very poorly indeed.

Take care of yourself and keep warm

Thanks Marmalade. Yes there's a lot of tummy bugs just now but usually you're actually sick too. I just feel nauseous but not actually sick. Come and goes throughout the day.

I would have thought this would have gone away by now if it was the tablet but it's still there. Seems a little better but not away.

Hi Jict,

It's good to hear that you are feeling a little better even if not fully back to normal. Are you able to do some yoga type exercise to help you relax and manage you symptoms. I've found Tai Chi very helpful and low impact…

Hi Marmalade,

Thanks for the good wishes. Overnight was better last night - still woke up during the night but not with the nauseous feeling although it did appear around 7.30am but not as bad. Yesterday afternoon felt worse again around 4pm - seems to coincide with stomach being empty. I've also been having an odd taste in my mouth on and off over the last 5/6 months. I did tell my GP but it was never really pursued further.

I also have a problem with my knee joints too. Started months ago with clicking if I stood up from a squatting position. Then left knee got a bit sore at times. Now my right knee feels as if it wants to buckle under me and can be quite sore. It's stopping me going for walks as it was very sore at the end of a walk a couple of days ago.

I've always been fairly fit so these symptoms are really getting me down at times. I just feel like I have no energy at all and wake up just as tired as when I went to bed.

Hi jlct,

I'm sorry you are having all these issues. I have to say that they wouldn't automatically lead me to PC and from the sound of it they are not leading your GP there either.

The joint pain could be arthritis or a number of other things. While I have sympathy with your situation and think that you need to advise your GP of any developments and queries, along side you can only try to help yourself with a healthy diet, regular low impact exercise, swimming can help with joints) a class or something to stimulate your brain and some socialising. Not much else I can suggest at this stage.

Hi Marmalade,

I think it's the stomach issues and back pain that have been leading me to either stomach cancer or pancreatic cancer to be honest but yes there are so many other issues too.

A test for arthritis was done in May and came back negative so I am at a loss.

I do really need to try and exercise some more now but getting increasingly difficult with all of this tiredness and weakness.

Thank you for your replies though as they've been very helpful.

  • 3 months later...

Thought I would update this post. No further forward with regards to a diagnosis though.

My gastroscopy showed that my stomach was normal - they have taken a couple of biopsies which I have been told is normal procedure and probably to check for H.Pylori and Celiac Disease. No word back on them as yet.

I also had a further abdominal ultrasound done just before the gastroscopy as I was still complaining of a sore back, especially on the left hand side but also around the middle of my back. Had to push the GP for this though. This time the ultrasound was done by the Consultant Radiographer who gave me information at the time of the scan which is unusual. I did mention my concerns about the pancreas so perhaps she felt sorry for me! She did say that she could see the pancreas and there were no problems. I'm really trying to be positive with this news as I still have a lot of back pain on the side especially in the evening and especially if I lie down on the couch to watch TV. My back gets quite itchy too. Can an ultrasound be quite clear?

If she could see the pancreas and no anomalies then I'd take it that you don't have pancreatic cancer. The only discrepancy occurs when they can't see the pancreas clearly because of where it's located.

Hope you can get to the bottom of things.

Sorry about your health situation, my weight and diet always tend to fluctuate. You might developed some allergy with fermented products....

Thanks Veema.

I can't see her saying everything was ok with the pancreas if she couldn't see it all but yes that was my worry, especially with the body and tail that seems to sit behind the stomach. However as she was the Consultant Radiographer I'm sure she knew what she was looking for.

My weight has stayed constant for around 15 months now although never did recover what was lost at the end of 2015. Presumably anything really serious would have seen me losing weight over this last year.

Thanks. I'm beginning to think some sort of auto immune disease.
