Paddys sister

My brother (age 49) has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which has spread to his brain. He doesn’t drink or smoke and was previously fit/healthy.

Our Mum also died of pancreatic cancer (age 56).

Can’t believe this horrible disease has hit our family again.

Paddy is having radiotherapy (brain/spine) which will be followed by chemotherapy.

Would be good to hear from other members with similar experience. His oncologist has never come across this in 10 years and I can find very little information.

PCUK Nurse Dianne

Dear Paddy's sister,

Thank you for your post. I am so sorry to hear your news about your brother, and as with so many people using this forum I am sure this must be such a shock to you all. I am also sorry to hear that this is the second incidence in your family, this must be even more difficult to take on board.

As you suggest, this is not a common finding of brain metastases secondary to pancreatic cancer. You may not find a great response form our forum family, however it might be helpful to touch base with us here on the support line if we can help you further. Our contact details are below if this is helfpul for you.

Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

With kind regards,

Dianne

I would get a second opinion... brain metastasis is uncommon. We did everything and everything out there to get my dad treated and then they thought it had gone to his brain. It took a few weeks for them to then think it was something else, and then another thing entirely differently. I am just wanting to recommend another opinion. We had scans going through Oxford, MK and Harely Street and none of them could be certain. x

Paddy's sister,

I am so sorry to hear about your poor brother and I am sorry that I cannot offer any advice. All I can do is send you a virtual hug and my prayers.
