Awaiting diagnosis

I've suffered with health anxiety for years always worried I have something wrong with me & with numerous visits to the doctors/a&e I've always been fine until last week.......

For about 7 weeks I have been having upper stomach pains I went to my gp who advised it was ibs, pain continued went back doctors who advised gastritis. Anyone one day the pain was unbarable so I went a&e & I was admitted to hospital.

They did lots of tests & my bloods came back that I had high levels of amylase so they said it's pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) I went for an ultrasound which came back fine so they sent me for MCRP (MRI) to see if I had any gallstones. The doctor advised no gallstones & that after 4 days in hospital I could go home.

Just before I went home a doctor came to see me who advised that they have found something on my pancreas which it can be one of two things either an inflammation or cancer! He said that because I'm only 29 the chances are slim! He advised that the specialists are going to have a meeting & discuss my case. As you can imagine I'm sick with worry feel weak & cant not stop crying. Since being out of hospital the pain in my tummy has gone however I now have pain in my back & terrible diarreah which are both symptoms! I'm convinced I have it & I don't know if that's because I actually do have it or it's because of my anxiety.

Hi SMJ. I can imagine how terrified you would be after the doctor's comments! I do know that at one stage they were hoping for high levels of amylase in my partner's case when he developed new pain which would indicate pancreatitis but his level was normal and they told him it was therefore likely to be a new tumour. So hold on to the likelihood of it being pancreatitis especially as the pain has now gone which is a good sign. I hope you don't have to wait too long for the result of the meeting x

The symptoms of pancreatitis are much the same as pancreatic cancer...fingers crossed for you that that's what you've got.

It's hard for you not to worry, I understand that, but it doesn't help.

Everything crossed for you that it's nothing to worry about.

Hi marmalade,

I feel very very anxious also having diareah

I have had no news yet they are having the meeting tomorrow so if I don't hear tomorrow I'll ring them late afternoon & hopefully get some answers. This has got to be the longest worst 2 weeks of my life!
